Originally from Salvador, Bahia, and now based in São Paulo, the 22 year old self titled “third world sonorizer” collects timbres from the sonic peripheries like guethotech, pagodão, arrocha, carimbó, tecnomelody, kuduro, afrohouse, – always emphasizing the local sonic identities.
Music producer and DJ, Ubunto is a Bahian artist active in the contemporary Brazilian music scene since 2014. His works include musical productions for names like Adriana Calcanhoto, Fafá de Belém, Vanessa da Mata, Preta Gil, Fran, and Majur.
Often found in several line ups of festivals and events around Brazil, from Festival Virada Salvador to São Paulo Fashion Week, it is also possible to add festivals and partner parties such as Meca, Bananada, Virada dos Lençóis, Carnageralda and Camarote da Arara. In 2019, he was invited by the Salvador City Hall to recreate his song “Careta”, used as the official soundtrack for the tourism day campaign.
In 2020, he acted as music curator and resident DJ at Camarote Expresso 2222, by Gilberto Gil, at the Salvador Carnival, in addition to having launched “Abre a Roda”, a music label and audio producer. Abre a Roda is an initiative led by Ubuntu. Its proposal is to build creative solutions that take music to the most varied uses and possibilities. Abre a Roda works on several musical fronts such as soundtracks, music for advertising, artistic direction and music production for artists and companies. In 2021, he launched the project “Still Behind the Pôr do Sol” in honor of Lazzo Matumbi and participated in projects with Gucci and Misci, a national brand that was highlighted in the last edition of SPFW.
Aside from producing bands and artists from Salvador, he is currently working with the singer/rapper Kessidy Kess and he is also part of the Bahia Bass movement.
